As part of the steps taken by the Foreign Ministry to facilitate access to the Covid-19 vaccine and, as directed by President Alberto Fernández, to participate in the research and the productive chain of all the vaccines under development, Foreign Minister Solá met with Cuban Ambassador Pedro Pablo Prada to discuss the Argentine proposal that links financing with more production capacity for Cuban vaccines.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the officials discussed the crisis and the challenges imposed by the pandemic and the need to advance projects that favour access to the Covid-19 vaccine.

Regarding negotiations between Argentina and Cuba, the Foreign Minister stated: “Our country is waiting for presidential-level discussions to end in order to then advance an agreement as swiftly as possible.”

They also talked about another product with Cuban technology: a nasal medication that by a high percentage prevents viruses from penetrating mucous membranes. “Argentina is also interested in this drug,” stated Solá after the meeting and added: “It could be easily used by people who need to move around.”

They also addressed potential collaboration with Cuba regarding health, within the framework of the bilateral work in that field in which the Foreign Ministry is involved.

In this regard, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, is in contact with the developers of these vaccines and this drug, sharing scientific information to advance cooperation between both countries.
